Zafira Nanji is the Human Resources Manager at Destination Canada, Canada’s national tourism authority. Zafira is accountable for HR Technology; HR Business Processes; Diversity & Employer Branding; Talent programs: Engagement, Recruitment, Retention, Succession Planning, Training; Total Rewards & Recognition and more. She was previously the Human Resources Business Partner with Prospera Credit Union, representing the Corporate Office, Business Banking and the Okanagan Region. There, Zafira’s portfolio includes Employee Engagement, Diversity & Inclusion, Staff Recognition, Prospera’s culture & values as well as HR Generalist responsibilities. Her previous role was with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC/Radio-Canada), assigned as the Project Lead for CBC’s 5 year Strategic Plan “Everyone, Every way”. Zafira was recognized as a key figure in the public broadcaster’s Inclusion & Diversity activities, Social Media HR Strategy and initiative to create a Recruitment Centre.
An ambitious self -starter with passion for evolving technology and process improvement, Zafira is often described as a motivational colleague; a creative, dynamic thinker. Over the past 15+ years, Zafira has worked with businesses such as the University of Ottawa, Geocities, LG Petrochemicals, Korean Airlines, Elizabeth Arden Cosmetics, The Elizabeth Fry Society, Kelly Services, IBM, eBay, PayPal and Skype as an HR generalist & specialist, focused on leadership development, training, cultural awareness & diversity strategies and workflow.
Having worked with multiple cultures and grown up balancing immigrant and Canadian values, Zafira is passionate about international development and volunteer work, spending countless hours mentoring young professionals and raising awareness of global issues. Zafira sits on the board of directors for the Voices of Victory Education and Advocacy Society, and has a seat at the table on the Immigrant Employment Council of BC’s Advisory Committee. Zafira works closely as a mentor with the HR Management Association and Immigrant Employment Councils of BC, Alberta, Ontario & Québec. Zafira has previously held seats on the Federal Liberal Women’s Commission She has completed terms on the boards of directors of the Adoptive Families Association of British Columbia and the Ridge Meadows Women’s Centre Society. She’s an active volunteer with the Ismaili community, and has been since the age of 8!
Zafira has her CHRP, an MBA in Human Resources Management (University of Phoenix), a MA in Liberal Arts (Trinity College) and a bilingual Bachelors of Social Science in Sociology/Anthropology (University of Ottawa). Zafira was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta.
